Mandoza, undoubtedly one of South Africa’s most talented, aspiring and successful cross-over Artists hails from Zola in Soweto the biggest township in Africa.
Born Mduduzi Edmund Tshabalala on the 17th of January 1978 (same day as Mohammed Ali) began his tough journey growing up in a life of poverty and crime during the apartheid era. After a brief run in with the law, Mandoza, inspired by music all his life made his decision not only to become a musician but to change the lives of people by delivering messages through a South African born genre of music called “Kwaito”.
Beginning his career with a group called “Chizkop” and releasing 5 albums brought lots of fame, awards and success to the group but also lots of focus on Mandoza with his unique husky voice. In 1999 Mandoza decided it was time and released his solo album called “9 II 5” with the hit single “Uzotzolakanjani” inspiring his people to get off the corners and do something with their lives.
The year 2000 is when Mandoza’s career really took off with the mammoth hit album “Nkalakata” selling over 10 times platinum and winning numerous awards stated. Mandoza became the first black South African Artist to crossover to all nations in the country and became a major role model to his fans.
The Superstar also became the first Ambassador for the Nelson Mandela 46664 concert. Being invited to many countries such as Germany, Egypt, Belgium, Australia, London, French Isles, Uganda, Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana to name but a few performing to thousands of people where ever he went. Mandoza became known as one of South Africa’s leading Inspirational Superstars.
In April 2007, the performer saw his first ever feature film take to the screens when Number 10, the film from Oscar-nominated director Darrell Roodt, opened at cinemas countrywide. Mandoza has recently released his 9th solo album end of 2008 called “Ingwenya” which has already seen the singles blazing up the charts. 2 DVD’s have also been released, “Mandoza Live at Sun City” and “Mandoza Double Pack” also a release of a cosmetic range consisting of perfume, deodorant, lip balm, sun screen etc breaking ground in 2009 called Mandoza – “Col-lab-o-ra-tion”. Mandoza has wooed crowds of over 40 000+ people per event being the headline act in Africa predominantly in the Sadic regions like Lesotho, Botswana, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zambia etc !
